Name gov’t leaders who support rebels, Lacson urges

NEGROS Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson on Wednesday, February 27, urged the authorities to name the public officials in the province who support the New People's Army (NPA) to dispel general speculation.

“The statement was very general where no specific names were mentioned. I think, if they don't want to publicly mention the names, maybe they can personally inform these officials that their names appear as supporters of the NPAs. In that case, it would be fair to everybody because as it is right now, without mentioning names, we were all being accused of supporting the NPAs and that is not fair,” he said.

Earlier, the army in Negros Occidental claimed there were local government officials who support the rebels.

Meanwhile, Lacson said Love Negros has not yet listed the party's preferred candidates for the national seats.

While the visit of President Rodrigo Duterte to the province is confirmed on March 8 to launch the campaign of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP)–Lakas ng Bayan candidates for senators, Lacson said, “most likely, we will have a list but an incomplete list as we will allow our members to have their own choice. At the minimum, we will have eight candidates for senator and the rest will be left to the members to choose.”

During the forthcoming campaign of the candidates of Duterte, he assumed that all local candidates will be invited to show their presence at the campaign sortie.

“But, I really don't know the details yet because it is Cong. Albee (Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez) who is in charge of the campaign here. But I also heard that after the PDP-Laban event, the Hugpong Pagbabago of Davao City Mayor Sarah Duterte will come to Negros by the end of March and Fifth District congressional candidate Marilou Arroyo is in charge of it.” (CNC)
