Vicente: Knowing vs understanding the rules

SPORTS is an avenue for discipline and to make sure that this is properly observed and propagated, rules and regulations are set not only for athletes, coaches and the whole team but everyone that may influence the conduct or the procedure of the sport, some even cover the training or preparations of athletes.

In a world full of rules and regulations adherence to it is not full proof which makes it a real world complete of yin and yang or the balance of good and evil, only an athlete or a coach or the likes that are brought up with the proper character and development would give justice to the values imbedded in the rules and following it.

Many would claim to know the rules but few would be considered to really understand it, it’s a process that is developed and internalized through experience, exposure and loving the sport. The credibility of rules interpretation are only bestowed to a chosen few thus not anyone could interpret the rules with reliability, they say that people who have played the sports are better interpreters of the rules, while it may have an advantage it is not necessarily true.

This is the reason why organizations are tasked and have the responsibility to oversee all competitions and or events of their respective sports, this is to ensure the correct propagation and promotion of a standard conduct of every event and to ensure the safety or avoid untoward incident that might be brought about by shabby interpretation and implementation of the sports.

Between knowing and understanding the former is the first step to adapting and implementing the rules and regulations of the sport thus understanding becomes the stage of perfection, rules and regulations are set to make the sport an avenue for camaraderie and character development thus incorrect implementation brought about by incredible or improper interpretation ignites chaos that sets the competition into pandemonium altering the balance of yin and yang thus disrupts the cultivation of character.
