Senator to visit NegOcc to meet sugar leaders

SENATOR Joseph Victor Ejercito confirmed he will arrive in Negros Occidental on March 8 along with other candidates endorsed by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Duterte, who was also reported to arrive in the province, will launch the senatorial slate of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan.

Meanwhile, Ejercito will also meet with the sugar leaders in the province.

He reiterated his support to the sugar industry, being one of the signatories of a resolution asking the President not to push through with the recommendation of his economic managers to impose sugar import deregulation to address the high prices of sugar in the country.

Senator Miguel Zubiri has been asking the Negrense voters to support the reelection bid of Ejercito and other senators who have been supporting the sugar industry.

Ejercito has been pushing for mechanized farming and a massive agricultural modernization which are needed to boost farmers’ harvests and increase the country’s agricultural production.

Ejercito, author of the free irrigation and the anti-agricultural smuggling laws, said agricultural modernization and mechanization of a farming method are the first two steps the Philippines has to take if it wants to achieve food security.

“Mechanized method of farming will bring bountiful harvests for our farmers. We need to upgrade the old farming technique and leave behind the practice and mentality that are obviously hampering production boost,” he said in a statement.
