Philadelphia beat Oklahoma City, 108-104

THE Philadelphia 76ers ousted the Oklahoma City Thunder in a game at the latter’s home court with the score of 108-104.

The Sixers relied on their newly-acquired forward from the mid-season trade deadline, Tobias Harris, who posted a monstrous game of 32 points and 5 boards. Four other Sixers players scored in double digits with guard Jimmy Butler having a near triple-double of 20 points with eight boards and assists. Ben Simmons was able to catch one with 11 points and assists plus 13 boards. Center Jonah Bolden got 14 and guard JJ Redick scored 12. Center Joel Embiid was listed as DNP due to his injury.

For the Thunder, guard Russell Westbrook got a triple double with 23 points and 11 rebounds and assists. Forward Jeremi Grant got 23 points as well and bigman Steven Adams got a double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds.

A total of five players were able to score in double digits yet the team still lost. All-Star forward Paul George wasn’t able to play this game due to soreness in his right shoulder.

The Sixers were able to get a head start over the Thunder, outscoring them with 37-26 in the quarter and lead with a 16-point differential.

Yet in the second quarter, the Thunder came back to their senses and tied the scoring average of the Sixers with Westbrook leading the charge. However, the Sixers managed to maintain the lead after both teams traded buckets. The score was 60-49 going into the break.

In the third, the Thunder managed to cut down the lead into two points late into the quarter. However, the Sixers stopped the Thunder’s surge with plays inside and mid-range jumpers. The score was 86-79 heading into the last 12 minutes.

In the fourth, the Thunder brought their firepower from the last quarter as Westbrook tried to extinguish the lead with passes to the open man outside the arc and drives towards the basket. It seems that the Sixers were in trouble as the Thunder rode their fiery run. Yet luck seemed to be in the side of the Sixers as they managed to maintain the lead around two points with just 2.1 seconds to go. The ball was inbounded to Redick and he knocked down both free throws to seal the deal.

The Sixers improve their record to 40-22 in the East and the Thunder fall back to 38-23 in the West. This is the first win of the Sixers against the Thunder in their homecourt since 2008 and came out ending a 19-game losing streak to the Thunder this season. (Jayvee Gulfan, USC intern)
