Kristoffer Martin reveals asking for help to battle anxiety

GMA actor Kristoffer Martin said that asking for help was his way of battling anxiety.

Martin divulged to the media that he has been experiencing anxiety attacks and had sought professional help to get him through it. Martin was interviewed by the media last February 26 at a press conference for the Dragon Lady in which he will star.

Martin opened up about his attack when the media asked him about his recent string of quotes in his social media account, detailing his struggles in life. According to Martin, it is his way of letting out his emotions to avoid anxiety attacks.

“Hindi naman parang to get sympathy sa mga tao. Kumbaga, it’s me expressing na I’m hurt. Siguro sa ganoong paraan nare-relax, nawawala siya (anxiety attacks) when I express”, he said.

However, he stressed that he has overcome these attacks due to him asking advices and help from different people.

“Pero ngayon, hindi na, sobrang controlled na, kasi andami ko na ring nakausap. Siguro kasi....ayoko nang i-elaborate. Basta minsan, ayoko na lang ma-trigger siya ulit.”

Martin elaborated that his journey in defeating his anxiety attacks was, first, him acknowledging his feelings and, second, seeking help and opening about it to his family and friends.

“Kung ina-acknowledge mo naman yung feeling, you can control it. I-acknowledge mo talaga siya. Kasi kapag nagpakain ka, ‘tapos hindi mo in-acknoweldge kung ano talaga yung nararamdaman mo, kung ano talaga yung problem kaya mo yon naramdaman, kakainin ka talaga”, he stated as he talked about his first action.

“I talked to my mom. Sa girlfriend ko, kausap ko siya lagi. Ino-open ko talaga, kasi hindi ko talaga siya kaya. Tapos nagsi-seek din ako ng help sa mga taong may alam, kasi I've done counseling din before”, he said as he talked about combating his attacks.

Finally, his own advice to people experiencing the same situation as his is to always pray to seek professional help if it gets worse. (Von Daniel R. Plasencia, USC intern)
