THE possible construction of parking area for every establishment in Davao City is still under assessment, an official from Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) said.

CTTMO chief Dionsio Abude said in a text message Friday, March 1, those who plan to construct a building should submit Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA) to be inspected by the Technical Working Group (TWG) of CTTMO.

Abude said the parking area will depend on the space of the building, adding that it will also depend on the nature of business.

“Wala man sila’y mahimo kay dili man sila maaprobahan sa board para makakuha og building permit kung dili i-comply ang recommendation sa City Transport Management Board (CTTMB) (They should comply in order to acquire a building permit),” he said.

Based on the comments from SunStar Davao Facebook page, a netizen named Queen Anne Tidlos Asibal said that establishments should be obliged to provide parking spaces. The parking problem needs to be addressed with a long-term solution instead of solving it through short-term such as imposing penalties.

Abude, meanwhile, clarified that his P5,000 illegal parking fine recommendation was for huge trucks or heavy vehicles while for the light vehicles, his recommendation was only P2,000.

It can be recalled that Abude said during the Ispeak forum on Thursday, February 28, that CTTMO already submitted their request to the CTTMB but there was still no reply to amend the penalties imposed for driver which does not follow the policy.

Abude added that the reason for the recommendation to increase the fine is to discipline the driver since a lot of vehicles are seen illegally parking along highways and central business district.
