Council approves 12 infra projects

TWELVE infrastructure projects worth P383.9 million were approved by the Cebu City Council for eight barangays, only one of which is allied with the opposition.

The projects involve road concreting, slope protection and drainage construction.

The barangay captains of seven of the eight villages are allied with the Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) of Mayor Tomas Osmeña.

Councilor Jerry Guardo, chairman of the Council’s committee on infrastructure, said P283.5 million is allotted for the second phase of the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC) construction, which includes the utilities and plumbing, among others.

Once finished, the new CCMC will no longer have to deal with flooding problems since it will have a built-in drainage system, he said.

Among the barangays that have approved projects are Camputhaw, where a road concreting project amounting to P15 million will be implemented on Juana Osmeña Extension. A drainage system that costs P7.4 million will be carried out on Rosal St. Other projects that the City Government will implement are the road concreting in St. Jude Subdivision in Bulacao (P8.5 million), slope protection in Sinsin (P5.5 million), road concreting in Sitio Payahan in Guba (P6.9 million) and stone masonry and slope protection (P3.1 million).

A road concreting project worth P3.3 million will also be implemented on Justice St. in Lahug.

Mambaling, whose village chief is allied with the Barug PDP-Laban, will also get a road concreting with drainage system project for Sitio Alaska worth P22.7 million.

Apas will get two projects — a road concreting with drainage at 7th St. (P13.1 million) and concrete pavement on 5th St. in San Antonio Village (2.4 million).

In Guadalupe, a road concreting with culvert will be implemented on Guadalajara St., which will cost P7.4 million.

Fourteen other urban barangays will get silt traps worth P4.8 million to keep garbage off drainage systems.

According to Guardo, Mayor Osmeña has signed the notice to proceed that will be issued to the project contractors so they could start work immediately. (from PAC of SuperBalita Cebu, LRC)
