Mobile trash collectors fielded during parade

THE City General Services Office (GSO) will use mobile trash collectors to make sure that littering within and around the route of the two day grand street and float parade will be observed.

In the weekly Talakayan sa Environment Code of the Baguio Regreening Movement (BRM), GSO Representative Eugene Buyucan explained 15 personnel hired by the City Mayors Office will be fielded as mobile trash collectors.

“We have 69 regular street sweepers during the parade. We will have our own tail end sweepers. The City Mayors Office hired 15 job orders who are part of the augmentation for the collection of garbage during the two day parade,” Buyucan said.

As early as three weeks ago, GSO coordinated with the Baguio Flower Festival Foundation Incorporated (BFFFI) and laid down the plans particularly on the collection of garbage.

Buyucan added the BFFFI will be hiring their own cleaners to help in the collection of the expected large volume of garbage.

“We will try to provide additional receptacles but we have fielded some of our personnel to go around and advice our visitors not to throw their garbage anywhere,” Buyucan stated.

In last year’s grand street and float parade, an average of 400 tons of waste was generated during the festival weekend. (Jonathan Llanes)
