Saying this, home grown bet Marjohn Yap shows his readiness to lock horns with Ulyssis Lagos of Sultan Kudarat in main event fight of the Battle of the Asian Rising Stars on Sunday, March 3 at Limketkai Mall’s rotunda in Cagayan de Oro City.
One of the original products of Batang Pinoy program, the lanky Yap of Tin-ao, Agusan, Cagayan de Oro is the reigning Orient Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) bantamweight champion. While Lagos is ranked No. 9 in the Philippines’ featherweight division.
They will dispute the GBO’s (Global Boxing Organization) vacant Asia- Pacific featherweight title.
“The Global Boxing Organization may sound new to boxing aficionados in the Philippines, but it is a thriving boxing body in the United States and it will open more opportunities for boxing talents in our country,” said Oro native Rey Rodis, who’s now based in the US and is returning in boxing scene as founding chairman of GBO.
At least five amateur bouts will take centerstage before the main event fight between Yap and Lagos at 8 p.m.
“Dili kakumpyansaan kay nay kusog ang kumo sa kontra. Di lang pud ta manghinambog basta ihatag nako ang best fight especially nga ang laban nako dire gyod sa CDO before the hometown crowd,” Yap told SunStar Cagayan de Oro.
