THE Municipality of Magsaysay, Misamis Oriental will soon have its streets lighted as the Community Wireless and Power Corporation (CWPC) will be providing around 300 LED streetlights with wireless Wi-Fi and closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
The CWPC, a consortium of top technology experts, entrepreneurs and investors that aims to implement sustainable and affordable internet and energy throughout the Philippines and throughout the Asia Pacific region, was launched last Thursday, February 28, at the Phividec Industrial Authority’s Board Room in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.
The CWPC and eSmart Energy Solutions entered in a partnership on the same day.
According to James McCorkle of CWPC, the installation of the streetlights, Wi-Fi and CCTV in Magsaysay will begin as soon as the memorandum of agreement between CWPC and the local government unit of Magsaysay will be signed as well as the memorandum of understanding between CWPC and Moresco II.
“Basically, you put streetlights roughly 25 meters apart and our Wi-Fi radio goes 1,000 meters. So we’re not putting a Wi-Fi radio in every streetlight, we put it in a coverage area,” McCorkle said as he explained the installation plan which will be conducted by the Moriah Builders.
Engineer Roberto Dignos, CEO of Moriah Builders, for his part, said that the streetlights, which are eight to nine meters tall, will be powered by solar energy.
“Sa CCTV, ang mag determine ana ang ilahang security, kung asa dapit ang medyo mga hotspot. So adto gyud na sa mga medyo naay daghang tao,” Dignos further explained, adding that this will be helpful in reducing criminal activities in the area.
Doctor Mae France McCorkle, president of CWPC, on the other hand, said that this project will bring benefits to the residents of Magsaysay town and future clients of CWPC, such as: saving from expense energy, security for Filipino citizens through light and CCTV, wireless internet that can bring access to job, education, health care, resources for seniors and poor and entertainment, and others.
“With our new venture, we seek to do our part by delivering our promise by promoting to our community focus on jobs, capacity building and innovation. In closing, we really mean power to the people,” Mae said.
The installation process for streetlights, Wi-Fi and CCTV in Magsaysay town will take around six months, according to Dignos.
