Teacher nabbed for bomb joke

A TEACHER was arrested along San Pedro Street, Davao City Friday, March 1, due to a bomb joke.

Based on the report from San Pedro Police Station (PS2), the suspect was identified as Marilou Abunda, 25, teacher and a resident of Purok 8, Barangay Cabantian, Davao City.

Authorities said that around 6 p.m. Abunda entered a fastfood establishment located along San Pedro Street.

During the conduct of bag inspection of the guard, Abunda said “bomba” that alarmed the customers of the food establishment and prompted the management of the restaurant to call the authorities.

Police Colonel Alexander Tagum, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) director, said in a phone interview Saturday, March 2, that the suspect is now under the custody of San Pedro Police Station while waiting for the case to be filed.

“Reminder ko sa ila nga di magpareho sa maestra nga nadakpan sa usa ka restaurant sa San Pedro nga nag bomb joke kay di gyud joke ang penalty sa balaud, tungod siguradong mabilanggo sulod sa lima ka tuig gawas sa multang P40,000 (I am reminding the public to refrain from making bomb jokes just like this teacher who got arrested in a restaurant in San Pedro Street. The penalty imposed by the law for this is no joke. You can get imprisoned for five years plus the P40,000 fine),” Tagum said.
