10 ways to fight procrastination

A meme that says “the fact that I procrastinate and still get the job done is the reason I still procrastinate” has recently been circulating online. To all procrastinators out there, rejoice! This week is National Procrastination Week. Let’s not “celebrate” this week by setting aside work that needs to be done. Instead, let’s fight procrastination together. No better day to do such than on a Monday. So here are some tips:

Write down all your deliverables

The number one strategy to get your butt moving is writing a checklist. This way, you won’t sit idle on your office chair because you have a to-do list to accomplish for the week.

Get your daily caffeine fix (if you need one)

Most of us function after we drink a cup of coffee. Start your day with your favorite coffee and you’re off to a good start. The caffeine will surely have you up and running early in the morning.

Rise with a positive attitude

Shake the negativity off and think good thoughts once you’re awake. Admit it, we all dread Mondays because it’s the start of work week. Giving yourself a pep talk in the morning will help you get things done since your mind is already conditioned to accomplish all tasks for the day.

Reward yourself for little victories

Nothing motivates a person more than rewards for little victories. To make sure you get things done, give yourself a reward every time you finish a task or two. Rewards such as a social media break or snack break can be simple motivators.

Feed your hungry stomach

We all work best when our tummy is filled. Working on an empty stomach will only lead to procrastination since your brain won’t function at its best and you’re left unmotivated. So, always work with your stomach satisfied for better results.

Keep your phone away

We can’t seem to let go of our phone when we’re at the office, right? I think we can all agree that our phone is the root cause of procrastination. To stay away from temptation, store your phone in the deepest corner of your bag and turn the connectivity off (just to be safe).

Set deadlines

Sometimes, a day isn’t enough to get all deliverables done. So there’s certainly no room for procrastinating. Set yourself a timeline for each task to assure you finish everything once the days ends.

Make yourself comfortable

Making yourself comfortable includes wearing clothes that are office-friendly but comfortable enough for you to work in. It’s really about setting the mood right, whether it’s your clothes or even the way you sit, that keeps you on a roll in the office.

Mute the people around you

There’s really no time for distractions. So save all the “chikka” after work. Put out some disclaimer—you’re wired for work and hold no personal grudge against anyone (in case your co-worker asks why you’re not talking).

Keep yourself hydrated

A reminder that applies to life in general is to keep yourself hydrated at all times. Our body needs water for it to effectively work, so always keep a glass of water on your desk.
