DAR launches tilapia production project in Pinamungajan

THE Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Cebu Provincial Office recently launched its Tilapia Production Project (TPP) in Barangay Anopog, Pinamungajan.

The project is under DAR’s sustainable livelihood development program for the benefit of the agrarian reform beneficiaries.

TPP was made possible with DAR’s partnership with the Department of Agriculture and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (Bfar) 7.

An initial of 64,000 fingerlings were put up for tilapia production located within the agrarian reform community area in Anopog.

A proposed project of mass production of high quality tilapia fingerlings will follow soon in the area and it can be a source of good income for the farmers.

The project of DAR is geared towards a common goal of improving the lives of farmers by helping them develop their agricultural enterprise through livelihood businesses and increasing farmers’ access to economic opportunities.

DAR Cebu Project Coordinator Eleonor Ursunal said they also distributed garden tools to the farmers who are involved in vegetable production.

The project is managed by Anopog farmers who are members of the Agrarian Reform Farmer Beneficiaries Association (ARFBA), which is headed by Rosito Gabato.

TPP was launched at the ARFBA Training Center and the event was attended by DAR 7 Director Marion Abella, DAR 7 Assistant Directors Eliasem Castillo and Josephus Baterna, Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer (PARPO) II Antonio Del Socorro and PARPO I Varinia Fabillar.

The other attendees were Bfar 7 Director Nilo Katada, Bfar Cebu Provincial Head Edgar Delfin, Pinamungajan Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officer Gersyval Vestal, Anapog barangay officials and the agrarian reform beneficiaries. (S)
