Skills training center opens in City of Naga

RESIDENTS of southern Cebu may now avail themselves of skills and vocational courses to help improve their livelihood.

The Provincial Government, in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda), inaugurated the P16.3-million Cebu Provincial Skills Training Center in Barangay Inayagan, City of Naga last Feb. 21.

The training center sits on an 896-square-meter lot inside the premises of the Agriculture Demo Farm in Barangay Inayagan.

Gov. Hilario Davide III said the Province provided the 27-room facility, while the role of Tesda would be to take care of the series of trainings for the beneficiaries.

Before the center in Naga was inaugurated, the Provincial Government already had Tesda-accredited vocational facilities in the towns of Carmen, Daanbantayan and Samboan and Toledo City.

With the new facility, Davide believes that it could help provide an alternative livelihood to more people.

The trainings will include modular courses, or technical-vocational courses, that will be composed of basic common and core competency.

The aim is to prepare students to be technically competent, innovative and creative in a specific trade so they can become skilled workers, among others. (RTF)
