PopCom hosts symposium on teenage pregnancy

THE Commission on Population (PopCom) hosted a symposium on teenage pregnancy in Masantol town over the weekend.

Information Officer Isa Chan discussed the current trends and issues on teenage pregnancy with the senior high school students of Masantol High School.

The said symposium, with the theme “Postponing Sexual Involvement”, aimed to teach the correct and right information on adolescent sexuality, gender, reproductive and mental health.

PopCom said it recognized the need to address such issues through the Adolescent Health and Development (AHD) Program that aims to provide young people with appropriate information and life skills to enable them to cope with problems related to the attainment of their full development into adulthood.

The AHD classes target adolescents aged 10 to 19 years old in order to refocus resources and efforts toward identifying and modifying risks early in life before these are ingrained as behaviors and practices later in adult life that are detrimental to one’s well-being.
