Flower floats wow crowd

THE annual parade of floats did not disappoint thousands of spectators during the weekend.

Bedecked with fresh blooms, 29 floats charmed the crowd during the 24th staging of the annual Baguio Flower Festival on Sunday, March 3.

Led by the floats of the City Government of Baguio, the Department of Tourism with hall of fame contingents Baguio Country Club, SM City Baguio and NLEX Corporation, the parade of competing floats for the big and small categories wowed the crowd during the almost three-hour procession to Burnham Park with winning street dancers performing their pieces in celebration of the highland festival.

The Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio reported a 100-percent occupancy rate over the weekend. Police fielded almost 1,000 men and volunteers to keep the peace.

The Department Of Tourism-CAR float was themed “Maging Responsableng Manlalakbay” together with the Tourism Promotions Board and REV-BLOOM of DOT-Cordillera Administrative Region to send a message reminding all tourists to take good care of the amazing and breathtaking attractions within the country.

Hall of famer Baguio Country Club paraded with a Disney-inspired float, Mulan, depicting love for family, honor, bravery, perseverance and resilience amidst struggles, befitting today’s generation.

The NLEX Corporation Dino Land theme carried the NLEX Road Warriors with the float taking inspiration from the ancient rulers of the Earth as builder of roads.

Official entries for the big float category include ABS-CBN, Camella Homes, Generika, GMA Network, International pharmaceuticals Incorporated, Jollibee Foods Corporation, Kiwanis International, MC Master Siomai Hut Incorporated, M. Lhuillier Financial Services Incorporated, RJ 7 Entertainment, Sitel Philippines Corporation, Valley Bread and Yippi / TCA Philippines.

For the small float category, contingents included Coca-Cola Beverages Philippines incorporated, Enchanted Kingdon Incoporated, Igorot Treasure, Lubao International Balloon and Music Festival in Pradera Verde, Mega Global Corporation, MV Alabanza Longganisa, Palawan Pawnshop and Palawan Express Pera Padala, Paymaya Philippines Incorporated, Pizza Hut, Shakeys Pizza Asia Ventures (Baguio Branch) and the Taloy Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative.

Winners of the float parade will be announced this week by Baguio City Mayor Mauricio Domogan.
