Duterte to endorse local bets

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte is expected to lead a political rally in the province of Abra for the members of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) senatorial candidates together with the local candidates.

Members of the Presidential Security Group (PSG) and the Police Regional Office Cordillera (PRO-COR) have drawn up measures to ensure security during the Presidential visit.

Abra has always an area of concern particularly during elections. Election-related incidents have been reported in the province in the past elections.

Meanwhile, the Regional Joint Security Command Center (RJSCC) in the Cordillera is expected to release its final list of election hot spots or areas of concern in the region.

During the second joint command conference held at the Commission on Election (Comelec) Cordillera regional office in Baguio City, Regional Election Director Julius Torres said the Comelec en banc has directed them to finalize the list within the week.

"Initially, we are trying to finalize the list of potential election areas of concern and hot spots because we have been required to finalize these areas based on the resolution issued by the En Banc. We have to categorize them into four categories and we already have an initial categorized list which still needs changes. We agreed to finalize this either by Friday or Saturday this week," Torres was quoted as saying.

PRO-COR Regional Director Rolando Nana explained the RJSCC's ongoing assessment of potential election areas of concern or hot spot areas is a system that will identify such areas in the region for the adoption of security measures in the region.
