Hidalgo: Opening opportunities for the youth

TECHNICAL Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) is known for its development of technical-vocational courses.

These courses are seen to benefit many sectors in the society especially the youth. Nowadays we see out-of-school youth who are just hanging out doing nothing. These youth are prone to being involved in crimes and illegal drug trade.

One of the effective ways to provide out-of-school youth better opportunities and lead them to the right path is by providing them skills that will allow them to get a job.

Through the courses in Tesda, out-of-school youth are given formal instructions on what are deemed to fit them after a personality and inclination valid test. They will then undergo a training and the volunteer teachers will give them the test for evaluation. Then they are granted a certification on their skills once they complete their course.

There are countless opportunities for the out-of-school youth once they take advantage of the courses offered by Tesda-accredited schools or institutions. Whether it is a skill on cooking, fixing vehicles, massage, or baking, there is something they can choose from.

However, good facilities are also needed for students at Tesda accredited schools or in the senior high school program. It is good that the private sector is helping out in this aspect.

Recently, AboitizPower subsidiary Hedcor Bukidnon, Inc. and Aboitiz Foundation, Inc. turned over a single story, two-classroom building complete with tables, armchairs, and spacious comfort rooms to the Dalirig Elementary School in Bukidnon. This is part of their initiative to advance their goal through education. The students will be able to learn more things with the conducive classrooms.

There were also individuals who came together and formed a group that will gather and help the youth.

With endless opportunities, there will come a time when we will have no problems with our out-of-school youth.
