SAGAY City Veterinarian Baltazar Delorino denied the allegation that his office is using a “gas chamber” to kill impounded stray dogs.
“It's not true. My office is open for those who want to know our process,” Delorino, in a press statement on Monday, March 4.
He said chamber is already part of the building. It has been there before the construction of their office.
“It is utilized as a stockroom for our office supplies and other materials,” he added.
The city veterinarian stressed that the use of carbon monoxide poisoning is prohibited under the amended Republic Act 8485 or the Animal Welfare Law.
Delorino also urged Sagaynons to be responsible pet owners through securing and feeding the animals so it can’t harm other people.
Residents were also urged to avail of the services of the City Veterinary Office such as consultation, vaccination and castration.
Irresponsible pet ownership is still the biggest problem of the veterinary office in the city.
Thus, Delorino called on for active participation of the community in addressing the problem.
They will soon launch a dog registration program for easy monitoring of pets in the community.
Under this program, CVO will document dogs' profile for the issuance of dog tags and booklets. They are targeting to register 10,000 dogs. (CNC)
