Duterte to arrive in Sagay, Victorias cities on March 8

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte will be arriving in Negros Occidental on Friday, March 8, for the distribution of the Certificate of Land Ownership Awards (Cloas) and campaign sorties of Partido Demokratiko Pilpino- Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).

Provincial agrarian reform officer Carlos Padilla said the President will be arriving on March 8 at Balay Kauswagan in Sagay City and will lead the distribution of 3,423 Cloas to 2,495 beneficiaries that covers 1,609 acquired areas in the Northern and Southern part of the province.

Duterte is also set to lead the political rally of the senatorial bets of the PDP-Laban in Victorias City also on March 8.

Governor Alfredo Maranon said Monday, March 4, the Presidential Management Staff and the Department of Agrarian Reform are making arrangements about the President's visit.

Among the senatorial bets who confirmed attendance for the grand rally in Victorias City are Cynthia Villar, Joseph Victor Ejercito Estrada, and former special assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go.

Padilla said that Agrarian Reform Secretary John Rualo Castriciones is also set to arrive in Sagay City with Duterte with other cabinet secretaries.

This will be the first official visit of the President to the province this year. He has been here in previous months for his personal activities.

On June 20, 2018, Duterte led the ceremonial distribution of emancipation patents/ certificates of land ownership awards in Iloilo with the biggest coverage in Negros Occidental with 1,775 in northern Negros Occidental; and 938 in southern Negros Occidental.

The distribution of Cloas in Iloilo coincided with the 30th anniversary of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (Carp).

The president has distributed a total of 3,772 Cloas involving 2,134 beneficiaries and 2,694 hectares of land during the said event.

Data earlier obtained by SunStar Bacolod showed that in 30 years of Carp implementation, Department of Agrarian Reform in Negros Occidental-South already distributed a total of 115,677 hectares covering 73,635 agrarian reform beneficiaries.

It has a workable balance of 43,000 hectares for land acquisition and distribution.

The distributed land in the south forms part of the total 187,677 hectares of Carp areas distributed in Negros Occidental since the program started in 1988.

In terms of Carp, Negros Occidental has the biggest area in the country per DAR record. (TDE)
