Pompee unfazed over Duterte’s phone call to Oca

OPPOSITION'S mayoral candidate Jose Gabriel “Pompee” La Viña said, over the weekend, that he is unfazed and not affected by a video clip showing his rival, Cagayan de Oro City mayor Oscar Moreno and President Rodrigo Duterte talking over the phone during a senatorial rally in Barangay 40.

The standard bearer of the Padayon-Centrist Democratic Party coalition, said that what can be heard on the phone conversation was Duterte thanking Moreno for supporting his close friends, congressional bet Yam Lam “Alam” Lim and aspiring councilor Girlie Balaba.

He also added he has no problem with the President endorsing Lim and Balaba who are both under the administration ticket.

“Nagpasalamat siya sa presidente (Moreno thanked the president) for endorsing Girlie and Alam which is okay. The president did not endorse him. Gahulat siguro siya nga i-endorse pud siya (he must have waited, too, that he will be endorsed),” he said.

However, he said that it does not mean if both Balaba and Lim are being endorsed, Moreno gets the endorsement as well.

La Viña said instead of endorsing Moreno’s re-election bid, the President had even reiterated his fight against graft and corruption, and illegal drugs.

“He can't accept reality. Wala siya kakuha nga giinsulto siya sa President nga nag-ingon ang presidente nga ang problema sa Pilipinas is droga and graft and corruption (he did not get it that the President has insulted him by saying that the problems in the Philippines are illegal drugs and graft and corruption),” La Vina said, and then quipped of Moreno's 100 cases including three plunder charges.

He said the video clip of Duterte talking to Moreno which made rounds in the social media will not have an impact to Moreno's candidacy.

La Viña said Duterte has already chosen him over the incumbent mayor when his hand was raised by the President during the Roa clan reunion in the city.

He also said the President will come back soon to campaign for him.

On March 2, La Viña and Moreno crossed paths when both shook their hands inside a basketball match in Xavier University, in the presence of senatorial candidate Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, and actor Philip Salvador. (AS)
