BFP sets fire prevention month activities

THE Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), through the Zamboanga City Fire district, has lined up activities in observance of the Fire Prevention Month this March.

Superintendent Jhufel Brañanola, city fire marshal, said the Fire Prevention Month is declared every March because of the alarming increase in fire incidents during this particular period.

In Zamboanga City, Brañanola said the month-long celebration kicked off on Friday, March 1, with One Force Unity Parade and motorcade, with simultaneous blowing of horns.

“Oplan Ligtas Pamayanan,” a massive fire prevention campaign nationwide, was also launched.

Brañanola said they will conduct a series of fire safety training in the villages under this campaign.

There will also be a “Quad Media Fire Safety” campaign, and the local fire personnel, particularly the Special Rescue Unit, will participate in the 4th National Fire Olympics on March 12 to 13 at the Quirino Grandstand.

A three-day open house has also been scheduled for March 6 for public and private elementary school pupils; March 7 for Junior High School students; and March 8 for Senior High School students.

Brañanola said fire drills will be conducted on March 31 by all fire stations

in this city.

He said this year’s fire prevention month is anchored on the theme “Ligtas na Pilipinas Ating Kamtin, Bawat Pamilya ay Sanatin, Kaalaman sa Sunog at Palawakin.” (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
