ANGELES City mayoralty candidates Tuesday, March 5, presented their respective platforms of government during a forum organized by the Rotary Club of Angeles Kuliat.
Former Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) president Alex Cauguiran, Vice Mayor Bryan Nepomuceno, and Councilor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin attended the forum dubbed “Know Your Candidate” which was aired live on CLTV 36.
Cauguiran, who is running under Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda’s Kambilan Party, presented a 10-point program on health, education, illegal drugs eradication, environment, sports development, tourism, social care, information technology, and others.
The former Clark airport head said he will implement programs to make Angeles a competitive city and assailed the city government’s projects for the construction of a new city hall and sports complex.
The funds should instead be used on the improvement of the Ospital Ning Angeles (ONA) Medical Center and City College of Angeles (CCA).
Under his term as CIAC chief, Cauguiran said airlines and flights in Clark dramatically increased.
Nepomuceno of the Partido Ning Abe Kapampangan, for his part, enumerated his eight general programs which include employment and livelihood; infrastructure; social and health services; education; peace and order; transparency in governance; barangay support; and arts and culture.
The incumbent vice mayor vowed to spend P1 billion for the City College of Angeles (CCA) and another P1 billion for the city’s public hospital.
Lazatin, the official candidate of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, vowed to make Angeles a business-friendly city.
He vowed to work against corruption in local governance and rid the city hall of “bad eggs” or employees extorting businesses.
“Walang humihingi, walang nangingikil (No one ‘asks.’ No one extorts),” Lazatin said.
He also made an assurance that there will be no tax increase during his term. “This is an additional burden to our businessmen. What the city needs is efficient tax collection.”
Lazatin said that he will also work to improve the local economy and he will expand roads and construct overpass to improve the traffic condition in the city.
He added that he plans to implement serious solid waste segregation and other programs to protect the environment.
He also cited the activation of the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) as part of his campaign against illegal drugs.
