Zamboanga lines up Women’s Month activities

THE Zamboanga City Government is spearheading the celebration of the Women’s Month this March with the annual Dia de Las Mujeres, a parade and fund-raising activity honoring and recognizing women.

Organized by the Gender and Development (GAD) and the Local Council of Women, the Dia de Las Mujeres will be set on March 8, with an early morning parade from R.T. Lim Boulevard to the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, GAD chairperson, along with other local officials, will be leading the activity.

A short program will be held at the sports complex after the parade.

The participating contingents and attendees are urged to wear rubber shoes, and refrain from chewing gum and smoking cigarettes, in keeping with the rules and regulations of the newly-opened sports complex.

The Dia de Las Mujeres will gather participants from all sectors in the city who will be wearing purple or violet shirts as a show of support for Women’s Month.

In addition to honoring women, the Dia de las Mujeres will also be a fund-raising activity for the Mindanao Breast Cancer Support and Empowerment Association (MBCSEA).

The Women’s Month celebration is organized by the Philippine Commission on women, through the Local Council of Women.

This year’s celebration is anchored on the theme “We Make Change Work for Women.” (Bong Garcia)
