AN OFFICIAL of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) said that slain Chief Master Sergeant Mikie Espina was supposed to be facing a complaint due to allegations that he was involved in illegal drugs while being assigned in Talisay City.

But Police Lieutenant Colonel Eloveo Marquez, head of CPPO's Investigation and Detective Management Branch (IDMB), admitted Espina was never formally charged after he was reassigned to Police Regional Office-Bicol in Masbate on July 15, 2016.

Marquez said they were able to secure Espina's records from Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Visayas.

As of now, police from Talisay City are tracing CCTV footages that could have recorded Espina's murder on Wednesday, March 6.

Espina was reportedly on the terrace of his house in Barangay Dumlog, Talisay City on Wednesday when he was shot several times by men onboard two white vans.

The gunmen reportedly used sniper rifles to kill Espina.

Marquez said they have yet to determine if the assailants were really onboard a van as they are still collecting all evidence, including eyewitness testimony.

Some of Espina's relatives earlier told police that the slain cop had received death threats from members of the Kuratong Baleleng Gang in Talisay City. (AYB of Superbalita Cebu)
