Written pages, old illustrations told in silhouettes

EVER notice how books develop a certain character as they age? Pick an old book; notice the little details from the torn pages to the musty smell—it’s this piece of nostalgia that inspired fashion designer Bree Esplanada’s Holiday collection. Specifically, old illustrations of botanical gardens, flowers, birds and the book’s wallpaper, riddled with different patterns.

Bree’s designs are a nod to that bit of fantasy; a trail that whisks one away to a secret garden. The collection was made using neoprene, mesh and satin. He singled out the mesh skirt—embellished with flowers, birds and butterflies—as the one that took the most work.

“It took me four days to finish attaching the details to the skirt. I used at least six different laces. It was a wonderful struggle,” shared Bree.

She is every bit strong, confident, tenacious and just as wicked—at least that’s how Bree imagines the woman donning his collection.

That’s the look he leans toward most of the time: romantic, exciting and rebellious. The kind of look that tells you right off the bat what it is about but still leaves room for mystery. “It’s the look that I always love: The modern take on the classic silhouette,” he said.
