PNP dismayed over drug involvement of youth

POLICE in Eastern Visayas are alarmed over the continued involvement of young people in illegal drug activities.

Police Superintendent Ma. Bella Rentuaya, spokesperson of Police Regional Office (PRO) in Palo, Leyte, said this after two college students were arrested in two separate drug busts in Catbalogan City, Samar last week.

The suspects, ages 21 and 19, were caught with 17 plastic sachets containing white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) and drug paraphernalia.

“They should be studying well,” said PRO-Eastern Visayas Director Dionardo Carlos, expressing his dismay over how young people “unfortunately, fell to this so-called drug trade.”

“I was saddened by this news involving students,” Carlos added, citing a 20-year-old college student who also died when he allegedly resisted arrest during an anti-drug operation in Tacloban City in February.

“I am hoping that we will not encounter another case like this again and I appeal to the parents to please be of guidance to your children for they are the future leaders of this country,” the police director said. (SunStar Philippines)
