AS UNIVERSITY of Cebu (UC) confirmed its entry to complete the four-team 2019 Araw ng Dabaw Invitational Basketball Tournament, the City Government of Davao allocated a total cash prize of P270,000 for the team winners and individual awardees.

Miguel Solitaria of the organizing Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) 11 confirmed UC's participation in a text message to SunStar Davao last night.

Meanwhile, Dan Saguilo of the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD)-CMO, during yesterday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex of SM City Davao, said the champion team will receive P100,000 while the runner-up will pocket P60,000. The third and fourth placers will receive P40,000 and P30,000, respectively.

The most valuable player (MVP) and best coach will each receive P20,000.

“Pero naa pa nay 20 percent nga VAT so ang ma-net gyud nila kay P80,000 sa champion, P48,000 sa second placer, P32,000 sa third og P24,000 sa fourth (But the prizes are still subject to VAT so they will receive a net of P80,000 for the champion, P48,000 for the second placer, P32,000 for the third placer and P24,000 for the fourth placer),” he said, adding that the the MVP and best coach will then claim P16,000 apiece.

The UC's spot was earlier allotted to San Beda University but the latter declined due to conflict of schedule with their PBA D-League game on March 21. The cagefest is set on March 18 to 21. The SBP 11 officials then thought of Arellano University but it also didn't work out.

Admission is free but Saguilo said spectators must be early for the 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. games as seats are limited at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.
