Dads to DPWH: Build overpass on Araneta Street

EVERY week, student are sideswiped by vehicles on Araneta Street, near the Negros Occidental High School (NOHS) in Bacolod City.

This prompted the Bacolod City Council to pass a resolution requesting Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar to order the construction of an overpass for pedestrians on Araneta Street

The resolution, authored by Councilor Wilson Gamboa Jr., was approved during the regular session on Wednesday, March 6.

Gamboa said numerous complaints have been reported to the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office regarding the accidents on Araneta Street.

The NOHS principal also informed him that every week, the school records traffic accidents involving its students. Most of them were sideswiped by vehicles.

“We evaluated the area and determined that it really needs an overpass to secure the safety of the pedestrians, especially the students,” said Gamboa.

The councilor noted that Araneta St. is a congested area.

“The overpass will not only contribute to the smooth flow of traffic, but it will also contribute to the safety of pedestrians in the area,” Gamboa said. (MAP)
