Cepalco raises ‘red alert’ on election day

THE Cagayan Electric Power and Light Company Inc. (Cepalco) is raising a “red alert” status on the election day to ensure power supply is not interrupted.

Marilyn Chavez, Cepalco’s assistant vice president and head of the customer and community relations department, said they are assuring that electricity is stable amid the effects of El Nino on May.

She said Cepalco’s maintenance crew and workers have already been mobilized to monitor and check power lines in voting centers around the city.

“We are now starting to ensure a stable supply, and check whether the lines are alright in the voting centers,” she said.

She also said Cepalco is ready to respond to unprecedented situations that are beyond its control.

“We will make sure that there will no brownouts during the election day unless there are events beyond our control, like if there are (vehicles or trees) hitting our electric posts, but we are ready to respond because we are on red alert,” she added.

Chavez said that all crew of Cepalco will be deployed to all polling centers to assist election officials should there be any electrical problems. She noticed that in the previous elections, there were no power interruptions observed and that the crew were on standby.

Meanwhile, Cepalco is set to implement a 30-minute power interruption on Sunday, March 10, which will affect some villages in the eastern part of the city and some areas in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.

Cepalco said it will facilitate temporary load transfer of Tagoloan feeders 1 and 2 due to line tapping works along Tagoloan old road.

The interruption time will begin at 5 a.m. until 5:30 a.m.

Affected areas include portion of Natumulan old road from El Mundo down to Casinglot including towards NGCP-Tagoloan substation; all the barangays of Bugo, greater part of Puerto along national highway, Agusan and Balubal area; Tablon up to General Milling including Sapong and Palalan in Cagayan de Oro.
