THE proposed amendment of the Health and Sanitation Code of Davao City will include a new chapter on installation of water refilling stations inside Roxas Night Market.
City Health Office (CHO) Sanitation Unit head inspector Curtis Lazarraga said in a text message to SunStar Davao Friday, March 8, 2019, that the proposal will still to be discussed in a hearing on March 20.
"lt will ensure the implementation of a safe water delivery system for toilets and handwashing facilities at the night market," Lazarraga said, adding that these are basic requirements in food service areas to maintain proper hygiene and sanitation and prevent illnesses due to contamination.
He also said that they will also recommend the installation of toilets and handwashing facilities inside the night market.
However, more talks will be done as the implementing rules and regulations have yet to be discussed by involved parties.
Committee on health chair Councilor Mary Joselle Villafuerte said that it was the CHO Sanitation who proposed the inclusion and her committee will support the proposal.
"Sanitation Unit ang nag propose nyan kasi nga ang daming problema ng Night Market so dapat ayusin," Villafuerte said.
"Wala pud yata kaayo natutukan ang mga Water Refilling Stations so gusto nila maghimo og polisiya bahin ana (The concerns on Water Refilling Stations was not given attention. That is why they want to make a policy on that)," she added.
