108 firearms seized in Davao region

THE Police Regional Office in Davao (PRO 11) has recovered 108 firearms in line with the enforcement of the election gun ban to ensure that the upcoming midterm elections 2019 is peaceful and free from violence.

Based on their record on the implementation of the Commission on Election (Comelec) gun ban from January 13 to March 3, they also recovered a total of 646 ammunition as the result of intensified checkpoint operations. This is in line with the police’s campaign for a Secure and Fair Elections (Safe) 2019.

The Davao City Police Office recovered 32 long and small firearms while Davao del Norte Police Provincial Office seized and Compostela Valley Police Provincial Police Office seized 18 firearms each. The Davao del Sur Police Provincial Office recovered 21 while Davao Oriental Police Provincial Police Office had 19.

In Davao region, there have been 61 incidents which resulted in the recovery of these items.

Likewise, a total of six improvised firearms or sumpak were seized and a total of 20 bladed weapons were confiscated during police operations. Records also showed that there were seven grenades and nine other explosives that were seized.

On the campaign against loose firearms from January to February, PRO 11 recorded 68 firearms that were confiscated across the region.

A violator could be charged under the Omnibus Election Code as carrying, transport of firearms outside his or her residence or place of business is prohibited from January 13, to June 12 as part of the security measure of authorities.
