MAYOR Artemio Cirilio Donato Jr. and Vice Mayor Isidro Bilgera Bueno of Langiden town in Abra recently turned over three firearms that were recovered from various operations conducted by the Langiden Municipal Police Station (MPS).
The firearms included one calibre 7.56mm with a defaced trademark with no ammunition, one homemade machine pistol 9mm and ammunition, and one 12G shotgun and ammunition.
The firearms were surrendered to Police Brigadier General Rolando Nana, regional director of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), during the inauguration of the newest municipal police station in the municipality.
“The continuous gun ban operations of the Langiden MPS have resulted in the arrest of individuals by the Langiden MPS who violated the gun ban. This aside from those currently having in their possession some firearms and ammunition especially those with expired licenses, and those who voluntarily surrendered loose firearms in the province,” Nana said.
The firearms are currently under the custody of Langiden MPS for documentation prior to its turnover to the Abra Provincial Crime Laboratory Office for proper disposition.
Together with Donato and acting Abra Provincial Police Office Director Ceasar Tannagan, Nana said the construction of the newest municipal station is a testament to the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) resolve to maintain peace and order not only in the municipality but in the province as a whole.
“There are other infrastructure buildings that are lined up for construction in the region and we are awaiting for the budget coming from our National Headquarters which is incorporated in the General Appropriations Act because there are specifics requirements prior to the construction of our facilities,” Nana explained.
A primary requirement for the construction of any facilities of the Philippine National Police is a lot donation to be provided by any host local government unit, while the building construction will be funded by the PNP.
The three-storey municipal police station is estimated to cost P4.8 million.
