TWO unexploded ordnances were recovered and turned over to military troops in Guindulungan, Maguindanao, military officials said Monday, March 11.
Major General Cirilito Sobejana, Army’s 6th Infantry Division commander, said the ordnances consisting of two 60-milimeter (mm) mortar shells were recovered and turned over on March 9 to the 90th Infantry Battalion in Tambunan village, Guindulungan town.
Sobejana said the mortar shells was recovered by a farmer near his residence prompting him to report to an army detachment.
The recovery of the unexploded ordnances came amid the information campaign launched by the Army’s 603rd Infantry Brigade against anti-personnel mines in the province of Maguindanao.
“The ammunition may be used to manufacture anti-personnel mines, if not recovered,” Sobejana said.
He said to the residents to immediately report to security forces any recovered unexploded ordnances to avoid accidents.
“With vigilance and resolve, ground troops made headway in suppressing internal security threats, thwarting several bomb ploys of terrorists in Central Mindanao,” said Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, commander of the Western Mindanao Command. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
