Rebel surrenders in Mountain Province

A MEMBER of the communist terrorist (CNT) voluntarily surrendered without a firearm to the joint operatives of the Police Regional Office Cordillera (PRO-COR) and Philippine Army.

Police Brigadier General Rolando Nana, PRO-COR director, welcomed the returnee who realized that his life with the communist New People’s Army (NPA) will lead nowhere.

“We will ensure that, through the E-Clip (Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program), he will be provided with the necessary assistance,” he added.

Nana also called on all armed members of the NPA to surrender and to avail of E-clip program of the government.

The rebel returnee voluntarily surrendered to the joint operatives of Mountain Province and Regional Intelligence personnel, Provincial Mobile Force Company, members of the Philippine Army and Bontoc Municipal Police Station in the afternoon of March 5 at Poblacion Sagada Mt. Province.

The rebel returnee was identified as ‘Ka Bony,’ 28, laborer, native of barangay Belwang, Sadanga, Mountain Province and a resident of Baklingayan, Tubo, Abra.

He entered the Kilusang Larangang Guerilla (KLG) of the Nona Del Rosario Command as member of the group sometime in September 2018, and was allegedly recruited by an amazon whom he admired during the time the rebel group visited Abra.

The returnee decided to surrender because his relationship with the amazon ended and the hardships he experienced in the mountains, aside from being tired of hiding from the government forces who frequently conduct military operations in the area.

The rebel returnee will be turned over to the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office for assessment and processing of his initial assistance and livelihood program.
