THE Davao City Water District (DCWD) targets to complete the Binugao Water Supply System in Toril, which will benefit 5,000 consumers, in the last quarter of 2019.

DCWD deputy spokesperson Jovana Cresta Duhaylungsod, during the Kapehan sa Dabaw at The Annex of SM City Davao on Monday, March 11, 2019, said the construction of the new water facility is currently ongoing. It started in November last year.

She said this will address the growing demand for water supply due to rising population and economic development in the city's southern part.

The project, which has a budget of around P30 million, includes a production well, reservoir, and pipe network.

“[We developed this water facility] because of the expansion of the city going towards the boundaries if you notice. Five years ago, we already did a feasibility study for that purpose and then it is also timely because during that time, there were still no talks of the coal power plant and some of the industries moving there,” Duhaylungsod said.

She said they also conducted community consultations where they discovered that the residents in the area were already clamoring to have their water supply system improved.

Usually, the capacity of their well is around 5,000 cubic meters per day and that would cater to around 5,000 service connections.

“Last year although prior our entry, they already developed their own barangay water supply system kaya lang with the development of the area, with the coming of the coal power plant, the migration population and the industries coming, the water demand in the barangay also increased that’s why ‘yung project na Binugao Water Supply System was also very timely,” Duhaylungsod added.
