Senior citizens of Mandaue City, Consolacion get aid from Capitol

SOME 10,000 senior citizens from Mandaue City and Consolacion town received food packs and hygiene kits from the Provincial Government.

The distribution is part of the Capitol’s Halad sa Gugma Alang Kang Lolo ug Lola program, which recognizes the elderly’s contributions to the community. The program was launched in 2013.

In Mandaue, around 4,223 senior citizens from Barangays Looc, Cambaro, Ibabao-Estancia, Alang-alang, Mantuyong and Guizo received their kits and food packs last March 7, while some 5,803 beneficiaries from the Consolacion town’s 21 barangays got theirs last March 2.

The distributions were led by Gov. Hilario Davide III and Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale, according to a post dated March 11 on the Province’s official website.

During the distribution in Mandaue, Magpale urged senior citizens to register at her office so that they can avail themselves of free hearing aid, as well as other Capitol programs for the elderly.

“Wala kami gipili. Tanang mga senior citizens, tanan nga motongtong nga saysenta anyos matagaan gayud... Angay lang ang gobyerno magpasalamat kaninyo kay kung wala kamo wala sad ang atong mga kabataan (We don’t favor anyone. All senior citizens will receive the aid. It’s only fitting that the government show it is grateful to the elderly because without you, the youth also wouldn’t be around),” she said.

In Consolacion, Davide assured that aside from the elderly, his administration will continue its programs for women, farmers and fisherfolk, among other sectors.

Wesley Alimorin, Consolacion Association of Barangay Councils President, said the food packs and hygiene kits are a big help to the seniors as some of them no longer have the means to provide for themselves or have been abandoned by their children. (RTF)
