A COMPOSTELA town councilor left the local ruling Bakud Party to join the Garcia-led One Cebu Party.

Councilor Felijur “Jury” Quiño left Bakud and declared his support for One Cebu’s gubernatorial candidate, Rep. Gwen Garcia, and its fifth district congressional candidate, Cebu Port Authority Commissioner Duke Frasco.

Quiño took his oath last Sunday in Basak, Compostela before Garcia, according to a press statement issued by the party.

Frasco, the former mayor of Liloan town, welcomed the development.

“Historically, Compostela was a barangay of Liloan so this is a homecoming for them. We welcome Councilor Quiño and the Compostelahanons with open arms as our brothers and sisters, and our partners for change in the 5th District,” he said.

Compostela Mayor Joel Quiño, in a statement issued Tuesday evening, said he was unfazed by his brother’s defection.

“This is not news for Compostelahanons. In fact, during our assembly of the party’s barangay leaders we have already made this clarification that we will only be fielding seven candidates for councilors. Needless to say, he (Jury Quiño) is no longer part of the slate. This is a decision that the party has made in consultation with the party leaders in Compostela. Jury is found to have a questionable loyalty and he does not possess the principles of Bakud,” he said.

Councilor Jury’s defection came a few days after Badian Mayor Carmencita Lumain left the Nationalist People’s Coalition, which is fielding Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale as gubernatorial bet.

Magpale is also a member of Bakud. (RTF)
