Who will chair Pleb?

BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia said on Tuesday, March 12, that there were already names submitted to the Peace and Order Council for the next chairperson of the People’s Law Enforcement Board (Pleb).

Leonardia, who earlier held a meeting with the Pleb members, said they were requesting for the personal appearance of the persons nominated.

“They want to know them, so we will hold another meeting to discuss this matter so we can have a new Pleb chairman,” he said.

He continued that the City Council will also nominate an official and it will probably be Councilor Dindo Ramos because he is the vice chairperson of the committee on police matters.

Ramos earlier asked Mayor Leonardia to appoint a new Pleb chairman because until now, they do not know when Councilor Ricardo Tan, chairman of Pleb, will return to work.

Since Tan went on leave, the members of Pleb failed to conduct hearings on pending cases, he said.

Tan has not attended the regular session of the City Council after he and his wife were ambushed in Barangay Alangilan on December 14, 2018.The couple were unharmed but their car was riddled with bullets.

Pleb is the central receiving entity for any citizen's complaint against officers and members of the Philippine National Police. It also conducts hearings, resolves and renders a decision on cases filed against the erring police officers.

Other members of Pleb include Barangay Granada Captain Alfredo Talimodao Jr., representing the villages; lawyer Jovim Entila of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Negros Occidental Chapter; former councilor Celia Flor of the women’s sector; and Antonio Te from the private sector. (MAP)
