Kadalag-an Festival kicks off Saturday

VICTORIAS City is set to celebrate its annual Kadalag-an Festival from March 16 to 21 with a lot of fun activities aimed to add color to the celebration.

Victorias City, through Representative Alfredo Abelardo “Albee” Benitez (3rd district, Negros Occidental), hosted the recent visit of President Rodrigo R. Duterte to Negros Occidental. Duterte also dropped by Sagay City.

Victorias City Mayor Francis Frederick “Wantan” Palanca is inviting everyone to join the celebration.

Kadalag-an Festival is the highlight of Victorias City’s Charter Day celebration. It is held to celebrate Victorias ascension to a city from the status of municipality.

“Kadalag-an” is a word adopted by Victorias for its charter celebration. It means “victory” and it symbolizes the triumph of a municipality that turned into a city, against the adversities and struggle for peace, progress and the attainment of its vision.

Kadalag-an is a colorful celebration of Victoriahanons’ culture and traditions that have transcended several generations. It is held every 21st day of March since 1999. The celebration’s activities include street dancing, merry-making, and the search for Kadalag-an’s Queen.

This year, the celebration will kick off at 4 a.m. this Saturday, March 16, with the 4thKadalag-an Run. There will be a Thanksgiving Mass at 7 a.m., followed by the Grand Float Parade and Parade of Personages at 8 a.m.

One may also enjoy the following events: Opening program of the Agri Fair, Don Bosco vs.Hua Ming Invitational Basketball from 9 a.m. to 12 noon; Job Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; People's Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Dog Show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Boxing at the Park at 3 p.m.; Jesus Reign Praise and Worship from 4 to 6 p.m.; Kopre-pageant night at 7 p.m.; capped with a musical celebration at the public plaza starting at 10 p.m. with DJ Ian Caram, Bbarms, RJ Yusay, Austin Laspina, MC Joms& Kim and the Kiosk band

Many more activities are being lined up for the weeklong celebration, said Palanca.
