Cops to lead unity walk

AS A show of support for the holding of a safe and peaceful May 2019 mid-term polls, the Police Regional Office–Cordillera (PRO-COR) is set to spearhead the unity walk, interfaith prayer rally and peace covenant signing on March 16 in the different municipalities, provinces and two cities of the region.

Different stakeholders, local candidates, religious and civic groups, private and government agencies representatives of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Commission on Elections (Comelec) are expected to grace the unity walk and peace covenant signing.

“This simultaneous nationwide peace covenant signing is in line with solidarity week for us to ensure an honest, orderly, peaceful elections come May, we are hoping that all sectors will participate in this endeavour to be headed by the PNP,” said retiring PRO-COR director Police Brigadier General Rolando Nana.

Although retiring on March 15, Nana expects the presence of the candidates and other stakeholders to show their sincere commitment to peaceful elections.

The retiring general added PRO-COR will continue to intensify its efforts against loose and undocumented firearms in accordance to Republic Act 10591 and the nationwide gun ban imposed by the Comelec that took effect on January 13.

The PNP, AFP and Comelec expect candidates to fulfill their pledges and contribute in the attainment of peaceful and orderly elections.
