TO ACCOMMODATE families and friends of travelers who want to send them off or meet them when they arrive, the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) began construction of an area specifically for well-wishers.

GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corp. chief executive advisor Andrew Harrison said the Airport Village will allow passengers and their guests to interact more.

“The Airport Village is designed to provide a better arrival experience for passengers and significantly expanded the waiting areas for meeters and greeters,” he said.

Harrison said the airport village will have more local concessionaires, services and facilities that will make both the visitor and the passenger experiences more comfortable.

“The culture in meeting people is something important for Filipinos, so we want to create the right space and ambiance for that. We came up with this concept where we create an airport village for families to meet the arriving passengers and even the departing passengers who have well-wishers with them,” he said.

MCIAA General Manager Steve Dicdican said the airport village will complement the existing stores and services in Terminal 1.

“With the increased space, we can feature more of local stores and services which are very important for this resort-themed airport terminal,” Dicdican said.

Terminal 1, which serves domestic passengers, serves 7.7 million passengers per year.

Access to the airport village from the departure area will be through escalators and lifts that is accessible to non-passengers.

Because of this, the current Terminal 1 Arrivals Pick-up Road will be permanently closed, effective today, March 15.

Vehicles meeting passengers have the option of using the main car park situated between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 or alternatively use the pick-up lanes in the new T1 Arrivals Pick-up Zone where waiting is limited to two minutes to ensure sufficient capacity for all users.

Access to the T1 Arrivals Pick-up Zone is via the T1 Departures Drop-off Road.

For those who park their vehicles in the car park, access to T1 Arrivals Pick-up Zone is only by the three free shuttle buses with a bus stop located near the car park entrance. Shuttle buses operate continuously 24/7.

Taxi pick-up will remain in the same location for all types of taxis with a change in the assigned lanes. The same applies to MyBus services to the city. (JOB with PR)
