ENTRIES from Russia and Ukraine are among the early favorites in the 82nd Araw ng Dabaw Open Ballroom Dance Competition 2019 at The Annex of SM City Davao from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday, March 17.

This was bared yesterday by multi-titled dancesports athlete Jeannette Ortiz of the Filipinas Ballroom Amateur League, Inc. (FiBa-AL) during Thursday’s Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex of SM City Davao.

She said, “A total of 500 participants from 50 teams including those coming from abroad and different parts of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao are competing for cash prizes, trophies and medals.”

Except for the juvenile and novice winners who will only receive medals and trophies courtesy of the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor’s Office (SDD-CMO), the rest of the categories including the junior and senior divisions will award cash prizes to the top three placers. However, the fourth to fifth placers will also settle for trophies and medals. A total cash prize of P129,000 will be at stake.

Adjudicators from Italy, Hong Kong and Singapore will also arrive to spearhead the technical aspect of the tournament. They will also hold a workshop on March 16.

“This is a prelude to a bigger Kadayawan event where entries from 11 countries confirmed to participate,” Ortiz added. (MLSA)
