P36M tax collections from online payment

THE Cagayan de Oro City Treasurer's Office registered a total of P36 million tax collections through its online payment system.

Assistant City Treasurer for Operations Engineer Leonil Mistula said businessmen have started making transactions using their online system, recording 17,711 total transactions for the online billing and assessment, and 2,795 transactions for the online payment system.

Mistula said the e-payment system helped in the getting more tax collections fast, since the process of the payment is made easier for the public.

The online payment system was initiated by the City Government to give convenience and hassle-free service to taxpayers as long as internet connection is available.

Launched in 2017, the website, cagayandeoro.gov.ph, can automatically print out billings for real property tax, business permit renewal, and business tax using credit cards, and the public can pay their building fees, traffic violation, market stall rental, among other electronic transactions.

This innovation got recognition by winning the 2017 e-GOV Awards-Best in Digital Payment category and finalist of the Most Business-Friendly local government unit in 2018. (PJ Orias)
