Despite objections, Council ratifies P456-M projects

THE Bacolod City Council ratified the contracts of agreement with the three winning bidders of the City Government’s priority projects.

The contracts were ratified during a special session Friday afternoon.

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran said the Council ratified the P44,949,942.25 contract of agreement between the City and the Supreme ABF Construction and Construction Supply Company Inc. for the widening of Gonzaga St., and extension project that includes a bridge, drainage and flood mitigation in Barangay 28.

The Council also ratified the P61,301,441.94 contract of agreement between the City and Wilkinson Construction for the rehabilitation of Mansilingan-Felisa Road in Barangays Mansilingan and Felisa, as well as the P349,988,679.47 contract of agreement between the City and ESJ and Sons Construction and Construction Supply Inc. for the Bacolod City College site development and facilities project (design and build scheme).

Those who voted in favor of the contract were Councilors Caesar Distrito, Cindy Rojas, Bartolome Orola, Em Ang, Dindo Ramos, Renecito Novero, Elmer Sy, Sonya Verdeflor, Ann Marie Palermo, Lady Gles Gonzales-Pallen, and Ayesha Villaflor.

Councilor Wilson Gamboa opposed the move while Councilor Claudio Puentevella was out of the session hall. Councilor Ricard Tan was on leave.

On Wednesday, the City Council approved the request of Mayor EvelioLeonardia to have the authority to sign the said contracts.

These projects will be financed through the City’s loan of P1.7 billion from the Development Bank of the Philippines.

Gamboa, in a statement, said the contracts did not specify scope and parameters of work. (MAP)
