MEXICO -- The Provincial Government of Pampanga continues to invest in the education of the youth through the provision of educational cash assistance, service vehicles, construction of school buildings and other facilities and even opening of satellite campuses of a state university in the province.

Vice Governor Dennis “Delta” Pineda said the Pineda administration believes that the future of the province and families are in the hands only of highly educated youth.

As a result, the provincial government has already supported more than 15,314 scholars all over the province as part of the Educational Financial Assistance Program (EFAP).

Each beneficiary received a financial grant of P2,500 each for a total f P95.1 million.

In the past nine years, the provincial government has invested P1.2 billion for education.

From that investment, additional classrooms and public school buildings are now being used by students in public schools, while thousands of senior high school (SHS) and college students are regularly receiving educational assistance from the provincial government.

“Governor Nanay [Pineda] is continuously supporting the education of the youth. This is also the program that I intend to continue should I be given the chance in May 2019 elections,” the vice-governor, who is running for governor, said.

During the distribution of assistance on Friday at the Don Jesus Gonzales High School, Pandacaqui Resettlement, Mexico, Pampanga, Kathleen Yambao, a 19-year-old SHS student from Diosdado Macapagal High School (DMHS), shared that she is very thankful for the help that the vice-governor extends to public school students.

“Malaking tulong po ito sa kagaya kong grade 12 student. Marami pong mapupuntahan ang cash allowance pong ito (This is a big help for a garde 12 student like me because the cash allowance will go a long way for many things),” said Yambao.

Jan Medina, an 18-year-old survivor of congenital heart disease and an SHS student from DMHS, said that his sickness did not hinder him from pursuing his studies.

“Hindi naging hadlang ang naging sakit ko sa aking pag-aaral, nagsusumikap at nagpupursigi ako na makapagtapos upang makatulong ako sa aking pamilya (My ailment has not been a hinder in my studies. I persevere to finish my studies so I can help my family),” said Medina.

Another DMHS SHS focal person, Glenn Zuniega said that the financial assistance being given by the provincial government has motivated more students to consistently attend regular classes.

“Noong nalaman nang mga bata na malapit ng dumating ang mga cash assistance, mas sumipag silang pumasok araw-araw (Actually, when the students learned their cash assistance was coming, they became more diligent in coming to school each day),” the young teacher said.

He noted that the financial assistance given by the Capitol could help in decreasing the number of dropouts every year.

“Malaking tulong ito para mabawasan ang mga drop outs, kasi hindi na nila iisipin pa ng masyado ang gastusin (This is big help in reducing drop outs because they would no longer worry about expenses),” Zuniega added.

With this, he said Governor Pineda and Vice-Governor Pineda could boost the morale of dropouts and help them shape their minds to go back to school.

The EFAP beneficiaries in this town are 128 from DMHS, 57 from Gerry H. Rodriguez High School, 78 from Nicanor David Vergara High School, 350 from San Juan High School, 106 from Mexico National High School, and 405 from Don Jesus Gonzales High School. (PR)
