Pagasa planetarium breaks ground in El salvador

Emano made the statement during the groundbreaking of the P35-million planetarium in Molugan, El Salvador City, Friday.

He said the P35-million planetarium will draw tourists, especially students from the different schools in Mindanao.

The governor also said it will also promote the area as a major destination for educational tour and related activities which will eventually open opportunities for investors to build commercial establishments and the likes and create jobs to more people.

“I can see once it is done, I can see carenderia around, hotels will mushroom. It will boost economic activity in the city. Many people will earn and make a living because of the planetarium,” Emano said.

The planetarium is a theatre built primarily for presenting educational and entertaining shows about astronomy and the night sky, or for training in celestial navigation.

The Mindanao planetarium has chamber, small astronomical observatory, main office space, gallery hall, conference room, among others.

Dr. Renato Solidum, undersecretary for Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), said the planetarium will likely be finished in 240 days.

“You are not just going to see planets, stars and other heavenly bodies but there will be information na ibibigay kasi merong mga curators,” Solidum told reporters.

He said the planetarium can accommodate 150 people and visits and tours will be properly scheduled.

Provincial legal officer lawyer Neil Pacana said there was already a green light from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for the special permit to uproot and move the affected mangrove species to another area.

“That is our agreement and now we have the special permit,”Pacana said.
