DCPO: Araw ng Davao generally peaceful

THE celebration of 82nd Araw ng Davao has been generally successful attributed to the high level security measures implemented on the ground and cooperation of different stakeholders here in Davao City.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) director Police Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum in an interview yesterday bared that about 50,000 individuals flocked in downtown Davao on Saturday to witness the Parada Davaoeño.

"For information, generally peaceful and orderly ang Parada Davaoeño and the Lechon Baka kumbira kahapon... We have successfully secured one of the biggest annual events of our beloved City," Tagum said.

Tagum added, "It is because of the collaborative effort of all stakeholders- our supportive City Government, the organizers, the Security Cluster and our empowered or vigilant Community. We are truly blessed with this positive attitude of all these people."

A maximum deployment of personnel was likewise implemented during the event to see to it that security plans will run smoothly in anticipation of the huge number of revelers and VIPs coming over.

On the other hand, Task Force Davao (TFD) commander Colonel Nolasco Mempin likewise said that the security plan for Araw ng Davao has been executed properly that helped in the celebration's successful staging. He also thanked the public's cooperation.

"Araw ng Davao is very successful. No untoward incident reported or encountered by our troops on the ground. Our collaborative and integrated effort with other security and safety clusters under the auspice PSSCC (Public Safety and Security Command Center) has been very effective. Thanks also to the committed, hardworking and professional men in uniform," Mempin said.

Authorities has been advising the public to refrain from bringing backpacks to prevent inconvenience and based on their observation, the festival-goers has been compliant with their reminders.

"We are also thankful and appreciative of full support and cooperation they lend us. We have not received any complaint in this regard. We are also thankful for thr people's vigilance against crimes and possible terror plans," Mempin said.

After Araw ng Davao, next in line is the Alveo 70.3 Ironman on March 24, then Holy week, Palarong Pambansa this April and Midterm election on May.
