Police from Cebu, Davao compare notes on Bueno case

AUTHORITIES from Cebu are in Davao City to conduct an in-depth investigation on the murder case of Jonas Bueno, who was arrested there on Friday, March 15.

Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Davao City Field Unit Head Police Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz said the police and CIDG officers from Cebu arrived on Saturday, March 16, to shed light on his case after learning about his arrest.

She said the police personnel want to compare the details gathered by the Davao authorities with theirs for a more comprehensive probe.

“We are conducting an in-depth investigation to dig deeper on his previous cases,” Driz said.

Bueno was arrested by personnel of the CIDG, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 11, Regional Intelligence Unit 11, Mindanao Area Police Intelligence Office and Talomo Davao Police Station in Matina Crossing, Davao City.

The suspect is now detained at NBI 11 detention facility. It is not known yet if he will be turned over to the police in Cebu.

Bueno had a warrant for murder issued by the Danao City Regional Trial Court Branch 25 Judge Jerry Dicdican over the killing of farmer Trinidad Batucan, 60, who was found dead in Danao City on Jan. 11.

Batucan’s skin on the face and chest had been removed.

Bueno, who has many demon tattoos on his body, was located after his Facebook account using the name “Jason Martil” circulated online, giving police the lead to his location.

Authorities were looking into the connection between Batucan’s killing and that of Christine Lee Silawan, whose mutilated body was found on March 11 in a vacant lot in Barangay Bankal, Lapu-Lapu City.

The Police Regional Office 7 clarified, though, that Bueno was neither a suspect nor a person of interest. (JULIET C. REVITA OF SUNSTAR DAVAO)
