FOUR people were hurt, including the driver, when a passenger bus turned on its side in Barangay Valladolid, Carcar City, Monday dawn, March 18.

The accident reportedly caused a two-hour traffic jam at the national highway.

Police Officer 1 Francisco Saberon of the Carcar City Police Station said a Ceres bus, driven by Rolly Liala, 43, was bound for Cebu City with 39 passengers when a motorcycle suddenly overtook the bus by passing on its right side around 3:30 a.m. in Sitio Tubod, Barangay Valladolid, Carcar City.

Seeing that he was about to collide with the motorcycle, Liala immediately applied his brakes. He, however, lost control of the vehicle, causing the bus to turn on its left side.

Liala, and passengers Lorelyn Iñigo, 27; Wendell Lungayan, 23; and Amay Camelo, 72, were hurt in the accident. There were brought to the Carcar City District Hospital for immediate medical attention.

The other passengers are safe.

Barili Councilor Julieto Flores, who witnessed the accident, said he immediately called the Carcar City Government to help remove the bus, as it was causing traffic in the area.

The gridlock caused by the road accident lasted for two hours, Flores said.
